Astrobot is a interdisciplinary learning platform enabling discovery through a robotic hands-on development experience for students. The goal is to develop an user friendly autonomous robotic platform to train students in Control Systems, Robotics, and applied Artificial Intelligence. The system uses the Courier Robot Platform developed two decades ago then scavenged and subsequently mothballed. The current iteration of this robot is now referred to as the Astrobot. The goal is to create a long duration academic platform to foster learning and encourage student participation in the field of Robotics. One of the primary objectives of this activity is to function as an educational Outreach for students. Along these lines The Robotics Laboratory has structured an comprehensive educational curriculum covering a broad spectrum of topics including the fundamentals of Control Systems Theory for our students. This is provided in parallel to their Robotic Engineering and design work on the Robotic System. A background in general Control System Theory is provided along with a breakdown of how to apply this specifically to the Robotic application in the development of it's PID Controller. The Control System can function as the first foundation for the layering on of the Systems Artificial Intelligence. Some of the topics covered include
Introduction to Control Systems/Overview
Mathematical Modeling
Dynamic Linear Systems Review, Transient Response,
S Domain Analysis,
